Overview
Hospitality does not always pause for holidays. On most days that other businesses close, our restaurants are open and busy — so you may be scheduled to work. This guide lists the specific days UP Hospitality Partners closes, the days we run a partial schedule, and how to request a holiday off when you want one.
The official policy lives in the Employee Handbook under Benefits (Holidays). This article explains how it plays out on the schedule.
Days UHP is closed
UHP currently closes on the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
Closures can vary by location and year
Always confirm the published schedule with your manager. Exact dates shift from year to year, and operating hours around a holiday can differ by restaurant.
Partial-schedule days
A few days around the holidays are not full closures — we close for part of the day only:
- The morning after Thanksgiving (closed mornings only).
- The morning after Christmas (closed mornings only).
On these days you may still be scheduled for the open portion of the day, so check your shift rather than assuming the restaurant is closed.
Working holidays that are not closures
Outside the closures and partial days above, assume you may be scheduled — including on holidays that other businesses observe. Full staffing is required on holidays and major events. Time-off requests are honored when possible, but they are not guaranteed.
Holidays are peak periods
Holiday weekends are among our busiest stretches of the year. They are also the most-requested days for time off, so coverage is tight. The earlier you ask, the more flexibility your manager has.
How to request a holiday off
If you want a specific holiday off, treat it like any other planned absence and submit a request early.
- Submit a Leave Request on the Adams Keegan Efficenter Portal as early as possible — at least one month ahead for PTO when you can.
- Your manager reviews the request against staffing needs, reservations, and the rest of the team’s availability.
- Once approved, confirm your schedule reflects the time off and help arrange any coverage your manager asks for.
Submitting a request does not guarantee approval. Restaurants run on people showing up, and holidays are high-volume days — so popular dates fill up fast.
