Overview
UP Hospitality Partners invests in team members who show up with intention every shift. Beyond hourly wages and tips, UHP offers a set of benefits designed to support your health, time away from work, and life around the restaurants you help run.
This guide summarizes every benefit described in the Employee Handbook (effective September 2025). Eligibility, amounts, and procedures can change — the handbook remains the official source. When in doubt, ask your manager or GM.
Handbook is not a contract
Benefits described here are company policies, not guaranteed contractual rights. UHP may modify standards and practices in writing. Only company owners can enter into agreements for employment for a specified period.
Who qualifies for what
Several benefits hinge on whether you are full-time. At UHP, full-time hourly team members are those scheduled for an average of 32 or more hours per week.
- Health insurance — full-time hourly (32+ hours/week), after 60 days of continuous employment
- Paid time off (PTO) — full-time hourly, after 12 consecutive months
- Family and Medical Leave — team members with 12+ months of employment and 1,250+ hours in the prior 12 months
- Employee meal discounts — available to hourly team members on and off shift (see below for details)
- Worker’s compensation — all team members for qualifying on-the-job injuries
- Overtime pay — any team member working more than 40 hours in one week at one location
Part-time team members
If you average fewer than 32 hours per week or have not yet reached required tenure milestones, you may still be eligible for meal discounts, worker’s compensation, and overtime when applicable. Health insurance and PTO require full-time status and the waiting periods above.
Pay and overtime
Reliable pay is the foundation of every other benefit. UHP follows federal minimum wage law and Tennessee requirements for tipped and non-tipped roles.
Pay schedule
- Paychecks are available at your restaurant every Tuesday (subject to change) between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
- View pay stubs at www.adamskeegan.com/efficenter.
- Paychecks show gross earnings and deductions for federal/state withholding, Social Security, and Medicare based on your W-4.
- Report address changes promptly so W-2 forms reach the correct address.
Tips
All tips — cash or credit card — are taxable income. Report actual tips each shift. Your paycheck stub reflects totals, and your endorsement confirms accuracy. Comply with IRS requirements; the restaurant may allocate additional tip income if declarations fall below required thresholds. (Tip reporting policy as of July 19, 2025 — this topic is evolving in real time.)
Overtime
When you work more than 40 hours in one week at one restaurant, overtime is paid at one and one-half times your basic straight-time rate. For tipped team members, tip credit is factored into the hourly rate used for overtime calculations.
Health insurance
UHP offers health insurance through State Farm for eligible full-time team members.
- Coverage becomes effective the first of the month following 60 days of full-time continuous employment.
- Full-time hourly team members averaging 32+ scheduled hours per week may enroll.
- UHP pays 25% of the entry fee toward team member insurance.
- Elective dental, vision, and similar add-ons are not included in the company contribution.
Getting enrolled
Talk with your GM or managing partner as you approach your 60-day mark so enrollment paperwork is ready before your coverage start date.
Paid time off (PTO)
Full-time hourly team members earn paid time off as a way to rest, travel, or handle personal matters without losing a full week of income.
- 40 hours of PTO after 12 consecutive months of full-time employment (32+ average hours/week).
- Unused PTO does not carry over — use your balance within the year it is granted.
- Submit a Team Member Leave Request form at least one month in advance when possible.
- Approvals are subject to business needs; submitting a form does not guarantee every requested day off.
For step-by-step examples — long weekends, holiday requests, sick days, and extended leave — see How Time Off Works at UHP.
Holidays and restaurant closures
Restaurant life does not always mirror a standard office calendar. You may be scheduled to work on days when many other businesses are open — and you may be required to work holidays when the restaurant is open.
UHP currently closes on:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- 4th of July
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Morning only after Thanksgiving
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- Morning only after Christmas
Closure days are not automatically paid time off unless you are scheduled and the restaurant is closed — confirm with your manager how holiday scheduling and pay apply to your role.
Family and Medical Leave
When life events require more than a few PTO days, eligible team members may be granted unpaid Family and Medical Leave.
- You must be employed 12+ months and have worked at least 1,250 hours in the prior 12 months.
- Leave may be granted for birth or adoption, caring for an immediate family member with a serious health condition, or your own serious health condition that prevents you from performing essential job functions.
- Up to 12 work weeks of unpaid leave in a 12-month period.
- Provide reasonable prior notice when possible and coordinate return-to-work documentation with your manager.
Extended leave is separate from PTO. Start the conversation with your GM early so paperwork, floor coverage, and your return date are handled correctly.
Employee meal discounts
One of the most immediate perks of working at Germantown Café, Park Café, or Karrington Rowe is eating (and sharing) the food you help create.
- 30% discount on menu items during each shift — before or after your shift, or on break.
- 30% discount for up to four guests dining with you on your time off — food and alcohol included.
- Off-duty hourly team members may not sit or be served at the bar top. Use guest seating in the dining room or at bar tables only.
Guest seating rule
The bar top is guest-facing service space. When you visit on a day off, enjoy the discount from a dining room or bar table seat — not from the bar top.
Worker’s compensation
If you are injured on the job, worker’s compensation helps cover lawful benefits when a disabling injury occurs.
- Report any on-the-job injury to the manager on duty immediately — before you leave the shift if possible.
- Your manager documents what happened, how, when, where, and any witnesses.
- For disabling injuries, your manager provides information on lawful benefits available to you.
Do not downplay slips, cuts, burns, or strains. Reporting quickly protects you and helps the team address hazards before someone else gets hurt.
Training and professional growth
UHP treats restaurants as leadership schools. Training is a benefit in its own right — structured support so you can succeed on the floor and grow over time.
- A 90-day Orientation Period assesses fit while you learn the house standards.
- You are not expected to work a shift alone until your manager confirms you are ready.
- Certified trainers are among the best in their positions; UHP invests considerable time in trainer education.
- Feedback is ongoing — daily, weekly, and shift-by-shift — with written records for certification, awards, coaching, or improvement plans.
Our core values include growing personally and professionally through ongoing training and development. Ask for clarity and additional training whenever you need it — leadership encourages questions.
A safe, respectful workplace
Benefits are not only financial. UHP policies protect your right to work without discrimination or harassment and in a drug- and alcohol-free environment.
- Equal opportunity employment — no tolerance for discrimination based on race, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Harassment-free workplace — report incidents to management, ownership, or the confidential call line; retaliation against good-faith reporters is prohibited.
- Drug- and alcohol-free workplace — report fit for duty; lawful prescribed medications are permitted with appropriate disclosure to your supervisor.
